Tagline: “A comedically awkward evening between a nervous young couple that isn’t sure whether sex is a good idea on the first date.”

PCFF 2017 Judges Comments: “A comedically awkward evening between a nervous young couple that isn’t sure whether sex is a good idea on the first date.”

Inspiration: “I made a no budget feature in 2009 that I’m proud of called “I Am Worthless”, but I could never get people to watch it (understandably.) Initially I wanted to bottle what I felt worked the best in the feature–my favorite scene had a long term couple breaking up in a car–into something shorter and more easily digestible, and I wanted to play with the beginning of a relationship instead of the end. I really like the idea that somehow failing to have sex, and having awkward embarrassing experiences in the process, can almost wind up being sweeter, maybe more romantic, and definitely more memorable than if you just successfully get it on.” – Micah Troublefield

Filming Challenges: “We filmed this on two consecutive nights, wrapping up as the sun rose on Valentine’s Day morning 2016. Our producer (and sound guy) was moving to California a couple days later, so we were locked into this particular weekend, even though it wound up being the coldest weekend of the year in South Carolina. We had this poor couple sometimes scantily clad in twenty degree weather trying not to shiver when we rolled, but they never complained. It was miserable, and grueling, and a total blast. Oh, one last anecdote… a week before we shot, a couple were arrested in the EXACT SAME SPOT for having sex in a car. We already had that location set, so I had to call up the officer that arrested them, and explain that we were about to do the same thing in the same spot but with a bunch of people and a camera. We didn’t get arrested and it made me feel good about the location we had chosen.” – Micah Troublefield
